Danone North America is looking for a Manager Plant Maintenance in San Juan Bautista.

The Maintenance Manager is accountable for all equipment maintenance operations during the AM shift. This includes supervision of Maintenance Supervisors, Mechanics, Installers, and Repairers. The Maintenance Manager also implements policies and procedures, coordinates with leaders from other departments and interacts with higher management.  This role will also work closely with the corporate engineering team on all equipment innovation and initiatives to ensure successful startup and delivery with inclusion of Continuous Improvement standards. ln addition, this individual must be comfortable working in a fast paced environment that is subject to long hours including evenings and on-call status.  Some travel is also required.

Essential Functions Required:

  • Utilize computerized maintenance databases to support Corrective and Preventative maintenance program (CMMIS).
  • Provide continuous leadership and guidance to maintenance supervisors and employees. Coach and mentor plant maintenance leads on maintenance strategy, best practices and role of a maintenance organization in a continuous improvement environment.
  • Review processing schedules and production orders to make decisions concerning inventory requirements, staffing requirements, work procedures, or duty assignments, considering budgetary limitations and time constraints.
  • Review operations and confer with technical or administrative staff to resolve equipment or processing problems.
  • Prepare and maintain equipment maintenance and personnel records. Utilize Reliability Engineering techniques to optimize line performance.
  • Recommend procedures for facility or production modification.
  • Initiate and coordinate inventory and cost control programs.
  • Develop positive partnerships with other operational functions (i.e. production or human resources) and suppliers to ensure human capital, equipment, production and sanitation processes are used in the most effective/efficient manner to meet or exceed manufacturing targets. Support Autonomous Maintenance program to build capability in all employees to identify and correct base condition defects to the component level.   
  • Manage direct reports and provide leadership and guidance for their professional and personal development.
  • Own and drive safety programs to ensure operations personnel are in compliance with federal/state and company policies and procedures. Partner with EHS to ensure OSHA compliance and proper management of process safety maintenance.
  • Monitor tool and parts inventories and the condition and maintenance of shops to ensure adequate working conditions.
  • Examine objects, systems, or facilities, and analyze information to determine needed installations, services, or repairs.
  • Inspect, test, and measure completed work, using devices such as hand tools and gauges to verify conformance to standards and repair requirements. 
  • Perform skilled repair and maintenance operations, using equipment such as hand and power tools, hydraulic presses and shears, and welding equipment.
  • Meet with vendors and suppliers to learn about and evaluate products used in repair work.
  • Compute estimates and actual costs of factors such as materials, labor, and outside contractors.
  • Review, evaluate, accept, and coordinate completion of work bid from contractors.
  • Interpret specifications, blueprints, and job orders to construct templates and lay out reference points for workers.
  • Design equipment configurations to meet personnel needs. Participate in Engineering Work Process to ensure delivery of equipment with robust maintenance plans, integrated visual controls, established centerlines and defined routine clean, inspect and lubrication standards.
  • Recommend and/or manage continuous improvement in a way that engages employees and functional partners in systematic, effective and collaborative manner. 
  • Spend approximately 80% of time on the production floor and maintenance shop engaging with employees and overseeing department operations.
  • Cooperate with managers and other leaders to ensure all Company legal and ethical requirements are met.
  • Drive Food Safety and GMP compliance to ensure a successful food safety culture. Ensures food safety protocols without fail. Always perform tasks in a manner that protects and promotes food safety. Partner with Quality and Food Safety to maintain the Critical Maintenance System to protect product food safety and eliminate quality scrap due to maintenance failures.
  • Participate in emergency and crisis management teams.
  • Ensure all aspects of plant KPI’S are being reviewed and communicated to operations team and recommend ways to improve. Drives productivity and efficiency gains through reduction of Planned and Unplanned Downtime in order to contribute to yearly productivity and OEE goals.
  • Manage the Maintenance Training Program and conduct training to maintain compliance with Company and regulatory requirements.
  • Drive Food Safety with supervisors and managers to ensure compliance with all Company policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP), Hazard Communication, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) as outlined in the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 21 - Section 110.

  • POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

    Education:

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university is preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Related Experience, Qualifications and/or Certifications:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of manufacturing equipment maintenance experience with increasing levels of responsibility and authority including 1+ years of maintenance supervisor experience desired.
  • Excellent Planning and Organization skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships with plant leadership teams, corporate continuous improvement team and other functions as necessary
  • Proven ability to improve results and increase efficiency
  • Developed leadership skills.  Ability to build support within White-Wave to drive an aggressive, action driven agenda.  Understands and has previously driven culture change with a continuous improvement mindset
  • Experience and previous exposure to multiple TPM Pillars with emphasis on Planned Maintenance, Autonomous Maintenance, Focused Improvement and Education and Training
  • Ability to lead and train organization on breakdown elimination / root cause failure analysis
  • In-depth knowledge and ability to implement the six steps of Planned Maintenance in conjunction with Autonomous Maintenance implementation
  • Ability to conduct Life Data Analysis (Weibull Analysis) to determine optimal component life
  • Perform by-line rate analysis
  • Multi-craft/multi-skilled with expertise in electrical, electrical controls, mechanical, pneumatics, hydraulics and fabrication
  • Previous experience with industrial controls using Allen Bradley control platforms, Motor Controls (Servo and VFD) a definite plus
  • Experience transitioning organizations to SAP-based CMMIS.  Experience with MVP and/or MP2 CMMIS systems a plus
  • Working knowledge of OSHA equipment safety standards
  • Effective management of large maintenance budgets
  • Experienced with ammonia refrigeration systems a plus, VFFS packaging machines, industrial electronics and controls, hydraulic and pneumatic systems and associated plant support equipment.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and project management skills.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and standard operating procedures.
  • Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) certification strongly preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate with multi-level audiences; bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred; must be willing to acquire Spanish language skills as required.
  • Computer Skills / Special Equipment Knowledge:

  • Computer skills – Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) a plus.

    Work environment consists of regular exposure to a refrigerated food manufacturing facility with very cold temperatures (34-36 degrees F); routine exposure to the smell of chlorine, heavy machinery, forklift traffic and loud noises; occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions; regular exposure to an indoor, environmentally controlled business office; occasional exposure to an indoor, not environmentally controlled warehouse
