Earthbound Farm Organic, a subsidiary of Danone, is looking for a Director, Compliance and Organic Integrity – in San Juan Bautista, California (US-CA).

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Director, Organic Integrity and Compliance serves as the Organic and Compliance subject matter expert and is responsible for executing on Organic plans, instructing, auditing, reporting, and ensuring his/her assigned sites’ to stay full compliance with the Earthbound Farm’s Organic program. The Director, Organic Integrity and Compliance serves as a subject matter expert for the assigned Local Organic Specialists and embodies the Company’s commitment to the highest standards of organic integrity; ensuring that organic operations are handled in accordance with industry regulations and current Federal, State, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Verifies and assures Earthbound Farm’s growing and plant operations maintain compliance with all applicable organic regulations.
  • Completes customer requests forms related to growing and packing operations compliance.
  • Schedules organic audits, reviews Organic Growing Plan submissions, and fields employee questions as they relate to compliance with organic regulation and 3rd party audit schemes.
  • Suggests changes to corporate level policies and SOPs.
  • Identifies and develops training needs for growing and plant operations relative to organic compliance.
  • Organic Program verification and analysis.
  • Ensures organic compliance policies at all growing and plant operations.
  • Works with R&D and Marketing to develop compliance protocol for new processes or products affecting their assigned sites.
  • Serves as primary contact to compliance software vendors for assigned site(s).
  • Serves as subject matter expert for assigned local compliance personnel.
  • Processes requests for new materials and chemical inputs for all operations as well as new supplier approvals.
  • Aids in investigation and reporting of non-compliance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Food Science, Engineering or related technical field is required; an advanced degree is desirable
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in compliance and organic integrity in area such as R&D, product development, laboratory management, quality management systems, organic policy and legislation or food process engineering
  • Experience effectively leading a team and accomplishing goals through others; a minimum 5 years’ experience directly managing others
  • Understanding of regulatory and food law, including USDA Organic and CCOF
  • Key functional skills, including:
    • HACCP and SQF2 edition 8 management
    • Project & Change Management Processes
    • Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
    • Integrated Sanitation and Pest Control Management
    • GMP and Personnel Hygiene Management
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable automobile, safe driving record and insurance coverage acceptable to Relay Resources insurance carrier.
  • Ability to pass drug screening and criminal history background check as appropriate at any time during employment.

  • Vision (Near, Distance, Color, Peripheral, Depth Perception).
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others.
  • Able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (ear plugs, hard hats, coveralls, smocks, gloves, goggles, and other GMP required equipment; hair net, beard net).
  • Ability to perform physical activities as outlined in the attached Physical Demands section of this position description.
  • Solid understanding of basic math skills including the ability to count, add, and subtract.
  • Available to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and overtime as business needs.
  • Proactively assist team members, managers and employees as needed.
  • Manage special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Change Management – Adaptable to a fast paced, shifting work environment; willing to remain flexible to accommodate changing business conditions, work requirements and scheduling needs.
