Danone North America is looking for a Quality Assurance Supervisor--SLC in our Salt Lake City, Utah manufacturing facility.

 

General Summary

The Quality Assurance (QA) Supervisor is a self-driven/self-motivated candidate capable of working proficiently, both independently and as part of a team, without direct supervision. Persons must have a passion for safety and be able to foster effective working relationships built upon trust and respect within all levels of the organization. Persons must possess excellent communication skills to effectively interact on a timely basis via appropriate communication media, both internally and externally. Persons must possess strong technical and computer related skills. The successful individual will assist in monitoring, testing, recording and reacting on data pertaining to products, production process, and quality systems to ensure the highest standards of quality and food safety are met or exceeded and products produced are compliant with federal, state and company specifications. Persons must be capable of producing accurate results, while multitasking in a fast-paced environment. Persons must anticipate problems or conflicts, problem solve and react accordingly while maintaining a proactive approach to all work tasks and any issues as they arise. The QA Supervisor must be crossed trained on all Quality Laboratory functions and maintain a thorough knowledge of laboratory equipment to include operation, calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair for assisting in training all new QA technicians. The QA Supervisor must interpret, understand, support, and have working knowledge of plant/corporate protocols and programs as well as facility management systems. The successful individual will also actively support new system installations and implementations and seek to continually maintain reliability. The successful individual implements continuous improvements within all systems and seeks to minimize waste and loss. The QA Supervisor will assist, train, and coach employees within all levels of the organization regarding quality and food safety related topics.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead/manager direct reports of Quality Lab Technicians
  • Manage the lab equipment and supplies budget to ensure spending control
  • Perform SAP inventory transactions- holds, releases and trace exercises
  • Primary contact for the Analytical Performance Group
  • Ensure calibration program compliance
  • Assist in Food Safety, Organic, and regulatory audits
  • Assist with the Non-conformity and Corrective Action Process
  • Support the Plant Foods Safety and Food Defense Teams
  • Perform analysis according to the control plan, document finding, analyze the trends and put together quality action
  • Work safely, as well as report and assist in mitigating all safety concerns.
  • Comprehend, train and support plant/corporate protocols and programs, as well as facility systems, including informational, operational and managerial systems such as Sample6, IQS Sigma, and Ignition to the Quality Team
  • Communicate effectively with other departments, management, and employees including notifying appropriate teams when problems and/or concerns arise
  • Train the lab/operational teams as needed on related quality topics
  • Support innovation and plant trials
  • Provide oversight for facility systems and actively support the development, implementation and training of day to day operations and maintenance of checks and balances programs such as coding checks, OQI review and filler inspections to lab personnel
  • Assisting the Quality Documentation Specialist in creating and implementing all new paperwork within the facility

 

Experience

  • Bachelor degree, preferably with a Food Science, Microbiology or the equivalent focus.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of food/consumer goods manufacturing experience with increasing levels of responsibility and authority including 1+ years of laboratory management experience desired.
  • Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) certification strongly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Up-to-date knowledge of State and Federal food safety regulations, relevant legislation, Good Management Practices (GMP) and HACCP programs.
  • Technical knowledge of manufacturing operations and operational support functions (cleaning and sanitization, plant maintenance, planning, safety, quality and human resources).
  • Computer skills – Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and project management skills.
  • Excellent planning/organization skills.
  • Able to write reports, business correspondence and standard operating procedures (SOP).
  • Able to work under tight deadlines in a manufacturing environment and respond to “on call” hours as needed.
  • Lead through influence - Develops effective working relationships with internal and external partners
  • Change Management – Adaptable to a fast paced, shifting work environment; willing to remain flexible to accommodate changing business conditions, work requirements and scheduling needs.
  • Detail Oriented – Attention to detail, ability to focus on the project or task at hand and consistently deliver error free results.
